STUART BROADBENT
CEng MIMechE, Obsolescence Director, Services Platform, Alstom
Stuart Broadbent is Obsolescence Director at Alstom, responsible for all aspects of obsolescence management in the business. His challenge is to manage the long life-cycle of railway equipment (rolling stock, signalling and infrastructure) with the short development cycles of commercial and industrial equipment and components.
He manages a specialist engineering team in France that coordinates and supports all Alstom’s obsolescence management activities, both in the design & build phase and in the service phase of system and product lifecycle. He works with a network of engineers addressing obsolescence issues around the world for Alstom. Alstom offers obsolescence management services to its customers using the tools and techniques developed for its own maintenance and parts activities.
He has worked in the rail industry since 1977, and joined GEC Traction (later GEC Alsthom and Alstom) in 1980 as a graduate engineer. He has worked in a variety of commercial, engineering, information systems, logistics, manufacturing, projects and rolling stock maintenance roles in the company, both in the UK and in France, bringing a wealth of experience to a topic that needs to look forwards as well as back.
He is a Chartered Engineer (MIMechE) and is a director of IIOM (International Institute of Obsolescence Management) and Vice Chair of IIOM UK.
