Sophie Verbeek

Manager Digitalisation Rolling Stock & Maintenance, NS

Sophie Verbeek's area of responsibility is digitalization of rolling stock and maintenance processes within NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen, Dutch Railways). NS owns, operates and maintains a mixed fleet of rolling stock for passenger rail transport in the Netherlands and carries ~1 million customers per day.

Digitalization of rolling stock and maintenance works is a strategic objective for NS. Digital services are offered on board to optimize travel comfort (connectivity, travel info, wayfinding, punctuality, utitlization of infrastructure). On board staff are supported by digital functions such as automatic train operations, driver controlled operations, drive-assist functions and on demand CCTV.

Fleet data is used to guard and monitor operations in real time, as well as for analytics functions to optimize maintenance. Ranging from sensory equipment (on board and wayside) to prevent and detect defects, to condition-based maintenance, to distribution of work order for maintenance engineers. Cyber security is an integral part of all the work that is done in this domain.

A group of multi-disclipinary professionals (engineers, data-experts, IT engineers) works together on a daily basis in agile teams to deliver the best possible service to our customers.

Sophie obtained a masters degree in business administration from the university of Tilburg (NL) and Bradford (UK) and was responsible for digitalization of the energy infrastructure of a Dutch DSO before joining NS.
